Julia Landes launched ‘Studio77’ in London as a platform for her creative work, specialising in one-off and limited edition ceramics. Julia’s love of colour, pattern and texture are reflected in her work.
Fabric, hand-made stamps, or found objects are pressed into the soft clay in it’s first stage of creation to make a unique background material; the clay “material” is a critical factor in deciding on the final shape. Julia uses dress making techniques and hand made moulds to create each piece. The final stage is the glazing process, Julia likens this to cooking with colour. What makes this process so rewarding is the alchemy of the glazes creating unique colour combinations, whether a subtle change or whole new colour dialogue. The excitement and anticipation of opening the kiln keeps this a life affirming process.

Julia’s background is in textiles. She trained at Brighton school of Art (BA textiles for fashion). She then went on to design for global fashion brands and co-created the high-end international children’s brand ‘Tyrrell Katz’, known for its unique approach to children’s design.
