I love drawing the world round me, I’m as inspired by life in my locality-whether it’s dogs running around, or a view of Parliament Hill fields as I am by scenes of hot sunny days abroad.
I use these drawings as inspiration in my ceramics, either hand painting each piece using my sketches, or making prints of my drawings and combining them with hand painting my ceramics.
Hand painted slip work
These hand built pieces also use my sketches as their inspiration, but the technique of painting with slip is much loser and more painterly.
Each piece is unique, there are imperfections in the surface of each piece, this is caused by the way I pour the clay, however I feel these imperfections add to the character of each piece.
Sometimes I like to experiment with my drawings in another medium-stickers, cards and have to see what comes next, maybe fabric!
